Buzheng House

Buzheng House is a cultural heritage site protected by Jiangbei District.

Buzheng House was the former residence of Feng Shují, who served as the Provincial Administration Commissioner during the Ming Dynasty’s Wanli era. Feng Shují, courtesy name Rudi, passed the imperial examination in the 32nd year of the Jiajing reign and initially served as the magistrate of Taihe County. Soon after, he was appointed to an official position in the Ministry of Rites and later held the post of Provincial Administration Commissioner of Huguang.

When originally built, Buzheng House was grand in scale, with a total floor area of 10,000 square meters. The building used large materials, was sturdy and strong, and its width, depth, and height all ranked first among contemporary buildings in the ancient city. The surviving main structure consists of nine rooms and two corridors across three halls—east, central, and west—all in the flush-gable style. At the eastern end, there is also the “Jigao Hall” with three rooms and some side rooms, bringing the total floor area to 988 square meters.
