Yunhu Kiln Site

The Yunhu Kiln Site is a cultural heritage protection unit of Jiangbei District.

Discovered in 1977 at the Yingxiong Reservoir, the Yunhu Kiln Site is located on the southern foothills of the Changxi Ridge, bordering Yuyao City to the west and intersecting with Cixi City to the north after crossing the Changxi Ridge, approximately 27 kilometers from downtown Ningbo. Several ancient kiln sites from the Tang and Song dynasties around this site were submerged due to the reservoir construction, and most of this Southern Dynasties kiln site is also partially underwater. The ancient kiln site features an east-west sloping accumulation, about 74 meters wide from north to south and 50 meters long from east to west. A portion remains submerged. The porcelain has a slightly thick grayish-white body, covered with celadon glaze. Artifacts include bowls, plates, bowls, chicken-head ewers, inkstones, lamp stands, and other ceramics, decorated with lotus petal patterns. Kiln furniture includes circular and cylindrical pads.

The firing period of this kiln is estimated to be the early Southern Dynasties, providing reliable physical evidence for the study of early celadon production in the Ningbo area during that period.
