Guotang'ao Kiln Site

The Guotang'ao Kiln Site is a cultural heritage site protected by Jiangbei District.

The Guotang'ao Celadon Kiln Site, discovered in 1977, features a large accumulation of kiln waste including numerous celadon fragments, black-glazed ceramic pieces, as well as kiln furniture such as pads and stands. The main types of artifacts unearthed include stacking jars, bowls, ewers, jars, basins, and bowls—similar to those found at the Shangyu and Xiaoxiantan Eastern Han Dynasty kiln sites, which are considered the birthplace of celadon. It is one of China’s ancient kiln sites for firing celadon, dating back to the late Eastern Han Dynasty. The physical remains from this site hold significant value for studying the production and origins of both celadon and black-glazed ceramics. Specimens from this kiln were included in the "Exhibition of Ancient Kiln Site Specimens of the People's Republic of China," which was showcased in the United Kingdom, Japan, and Australia in 1979 and 1981 respectively.
