Pengshan Pagoda

Pengshan Pagoda is a cultural relic protection unit of Zhejiang Province.

Pengshan Pagoda was built during the Jiajing era of the Ming Dynasty (1522–1566) by Huo Yuxia, the then magistrate of Cixi County, and was referred to as the “Literary Brush Peak” of the county, serving as a symbol of Cicheng’s ancient civilization.

The pagoda was originally built with a brick and wood structure (the wooden elements inside have long since decayed and no longer exist). It has a hexagonal floor plan, seven stories, and is about 22 meters tall, with each level featuring arched gateways.

According to the Yongzheng County Annals, it was initially called “Peng”; however, the Cixi County Annals from the Guangxu era refer to it as “Pengshan Pagoda” and “Pengshan Pu,” both using “Peng.” The reason for this is unclear.
