Former Residence of Lu Yongxiang

The former residence of Lu Yongxiang is a cultural tourism attraction.

The former residence of Lu Yongxiang is located at No. 130 Chifeng Road, Heping District. The building features an L-shaped layout. Its exterior walls consist of both exposed brick and cement finishes, with a flat roof that extends slightly outward and includes parapets. The main gate is rounded at the corner and is topped with a balcony. The interior and exterior decorations are elaborate, featuring diverse and luxurious ornamental patterns. It is a three-story Western-style mansion constructed with a brick-and-wood structure. This former residence has been listed as an immovable cultural relic in Tianjin that has not yet been designated as a protected cultural heritage site.

Lu Yongxiang (1867–1933), originally named Lu Zhenhe and styled Zijia, was from Jurenwang Village in present-day Huaihe Township. He was a warlord of the Anhui Clique during the Beiyang era. As a child, he attended a private school for three years before enlisting in the military in 1890. In 1895, he studied at the Shanhaiguan Military Preparatory School and, upon graduation, was recruited by Yuan Shikai to serve as an officer in the New Army. He trained troops at Xiaozhan in Tianjin, where he became close friends with Duan Qirui and Wang Shizhen, and later became one of the key figures of the Anhui Clique. He held various positions including Regimental Commander (Brigadier General) of the Third Division (equivalent to a division) of the Qing Army, Division Commander of Yuan Shikai’s Tenth Division, and Military Governor of Zhejiang appointed by Xu Shichang.
