Former Residence of Meng Enyuan

The former residence of Meng Enyuan is a cultural tourism attraction.

The former residence of Meng Enyuan is located at No. 23 Chongqing Road, Heping District. It is a two-story (partially three-story) brick-concrete structure with symmetrical towers on either side of the main house, an underground level, a symmetrical layout, and a solemn design. The building covers a construction area of 1,539 square meters and features British neoclassical architectural style. After liberation, the residence was once used by the China–Poland Shipping Company. Both Premier Zhou Enlai and Polish Prime Minister Piotr Jaroszewicz visited the site. The residence has now been rebuilt as the "Donghai Fishing Village."

Meng Enyuan (1856–1933) was a native of Tianjin, Zhili Province. He came from a military background. He joined the army during Yuan Shikai’s training exercises at Xiaozhan, gradually rising through the ranks to become commander of the cavalry unit, head of the Zhili Patrol Battalion, and garrison commander of Nanyang.

In the 34th year of the Guangxu reign (1908), he was appointed as the Patrol Inspector of Jilin.

After the establishment of the Republic of China in 1912, he served as commander of the 23rd Division of the Army and as the Military Governor of Jilin.

From June 1914 to July 1916, he held the position of General Right of Zhen'an.
