Former Residence of Sun Zhenfang

The former residence of Sun Zhenfang is a cultural tourism attraction.

Sun Zhenfang, styled Yangru, was a native of Shouzhou, Anhui. His father, Sun Duosen, was the founder of the emerging national bourgeoisie Sun family business conglomerate during the late Qing and early Republican period. After his father’s death, he succeeded as the general manager of Tonghui Company but later yielded the position to his uncle, Sun Duoyu.

The former residence of Sun Zhenfang is located at No. 66 Dali Road, Heping District. This building is a luxurious residence funded and constructed by Sun Zhenfang. It features a brick-and-wood structure, partially three stories high, with a sloped roof. The exterior walls are finished in white cement, complemented by granite steps and uniquely shaped doors and windows, showcasing a Spanish architectural style. The interior is entirely decorated with hardwood, and the courtyard originally included a swimming pool, lawn, wisteria trellis, and European-style flower beds. Various plants and trees were planted around the building, making it a high-end villa in an elegant European garden style. After the liberation, the building became the Heping Hotel. State leaders such as Chairman Mao and Premier Zhou stayed here during their inspections in Tianjin.
