Former Residence of Yang Wenkai

The former residence of Yang Wenkai is a cultural tourism attraction.

The former residence of Yang Wenkai is located in Lindong Building on Hebei South Road, Heping District. Originally owned by Sun Yangru, it was built in 1919. This four-story brick-concrete apartment building features exposed brick walls on the ground floor, cement-rendered walls above the second floor, and a sloped roof with parapets. The interior is divided into individual units, fully equipped with refined furnishings and offering comfortable living conditions.

Yang Wenkai (1883–1965), courtesy name Jianzhang, was a native of Yongqing, Zhili (now Hebei Province). A late Qing Dynasty scholar. In 1902, he joined the Baoding Training Camp as a recruit, was later recommended to advance his studies at the Army Rapid Training School, and subsequently earned a government scholarship to study in Japan. He first attended the Japanese Army Officers' Academy (Shinbu Gakko), then enrolled in the Infantry Course of the 6th Class of the Imperial Japanese Army Academy. After graduating and returning to China in 1909, he held various military positions. In 1925, he served as Chief of Staff of the Headquarters of the Five Provinces Allied Army in Southeast China. In 1926, he became Minister of Agriculture and Commerce. After resigning in 1927, he settled in Tianjin as a private resident.
