Former Residence of Zeng Yanyi

The former residence of Zeng Yanyi is a cultural tourism attraction.

The former residence of Zeng Yanyi is located at No. 1 Changde Road, Heping District. It is a three-story small building in the European medieval style with Roman columns. The main entrance features a recessed circular staircase, a round porch, and a circular balcony above, all of which are very elegant and exquisite. This residence has been listed as an immovable cultural relic in Tianjin that has not yet been designated as a protected cultural heritage site.

In 1938, Zeng Yanyi returned to Tianjin for medical treatment due to illness and injury and took up residence in a house in the British Concession. From then on, he left his military post. During his time in Tianjin, Zeng Yanyi carried out many activities beneficial to the revolution. In 1945, the underground party organization of Yaohua School, where his children were studying, set up a secret activity site here with his covert support. He also used his social standing to help secure the release of arrested progressive students. During the Pingjin Campaign, leveraging his former superior-subordinate relationship with Fu Zuoyi, he assisted our Party in engaging with Fu Zuoyi, contributing to the peaceful liberation of Beiping.

Zeng Yanyi (1892–1964), born in 1892 in Huanggang, Hubei, was an old-style soldier with a strong sense of justice and patriotism. In 1915, he entered the Artillery Department of the Fifth Class at the Baoding Military Academy, where he was classmates with Fu Zuoyi and became sworn brothers with him. In 1920, he served as a Major Staff Officer at the Office of the Shanxi Military Governor and was soon transferred to serve in the unit where Fu Zuoyi was stationed. In 1925, when Fu was promoted to commander of the Fourth Brigade, Zeng took over as regimental commander. In 1926, when Fu became commander of the Fourth Division, Zeng succeeded him as commander of the Fourth Brigade and participated in the 1927 defense of Zhuozhou. In June 1928...
