Former Residence of Zhou Shutao

The former residence of Zhou Shutao is a cultural relic protection unit of Tianjin.

The former residence of Zhou Shutao is located at No. 129 Munan Road, Heping District. From 1954 until his passing in 1984, Mr. Zhou Shutao lived here for a total of 30 years. This residence is a two-story villa-style building with a red-brick sloping roof and walls made of brown textured bricks. The architecture is simple and unadorned, with the building and courtyard compact yet spacious. The first floor houses the living room and dining room, while the second floor contains the bedrooms and office. In this modest yet charming little house, Mr. Zhou spent his fulfilling later years.

Zhou Shutao (1891–1984), a renowned politician, industrialist, and collector, was from Zhikengshan, Dongzhi County, and came from a feudal bureaucratic family. He spent his childhood in Yangzhou before moving to Qingdao. In the third year of the Republic of China (1914), he relocated to Tianjin, where he remained until his death. Starting in the eighth year of the Republic of China, Zhou Shutao, along with his uncle Zhou Xuexi (who served twice as Minister of Finance in Yuan Shikai’s government), founded the Huaxin Cotton Mill in Qingdao, where he served as a managing director. He later held positions such as director and manager at the Huaxin Cotton Mills in Qingdao, Tangshan, and Tianjin, as well as director, deputy general manager, general manager, and chairman of the Qixin Cement Company.
