Former Residence of Zheng Yizhi

The former residence of Zheng Yizhi is a cultural tourism attraction.

The former residence of Zheng Yizhi is located at No. 35 Zhengzhou Road, Heping District. Originally owned by Zheng Yizhi, it was later inhabited by his son. The building is a three-story brick-and-wood structure with a basement, featuring a balcony on the second floor, a wooden pavilion in the courtyard, and a two-story small rear building. The overall architectural exterior is magnificent, with luxurious interior decoration. The building is currently used by the Tianjin Tobacco Monopoly Bureau.

Zheng Yizhi (1861–1922)

His given name was Qinglin, also known as Guanfu. During his early schooling, he changed his name to Yinglin. His courtesy name was Zhengyang, and his art name was Yizhi. A native of Yongbo in Sanxiang, he was the fifth younger half-brother of Zheng Guanying, with nearly a 20-year age difference. He was bestowed the honorary title of “Capital Official of the Second Rank” and awarded the Peacock Feather. In the third year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty (1877), at the age of 16, he went to Shanghai with Zheng Guanying to seek opportunities in the business world and joined the British firm Butterfield & Swire.
