The Astor Hotel Tianjin was originally built in the second year of the Tongzhi reign during the Qing Dynasty (1863), located on Victoria Road, the main thoroughfare of the then British Concession in Tianjin, and to the east of Victoria Garden — today’s No. 199 Jiefang North Road and No. 33 Taierzhuang Road in Heping District, Tianjin. It is one of the very few surviving mid-19th century buildings from the former Tianjin Concession area.

The Astor Hotel has dedicated over 700 square meters to a hotel museum that narrates its history. Currently, the Lishunde Museum is open daily and offers free admission to hotel guests. The museum recreates the original dining room and menus, and houses more than 3,000 well-preserved antiques, cultural relics, and historic objects. The historic Astor Hotel reflects an aspect of Tianjin since its opening as a port. A deeper exploration will surely make you love Tianjin even more.

The Lishunde Museum is China’s oldest hotel museum and also a world-renowned classic representation of Tianjin’s iconic “Western-style buildings.”

Here, you can review the hotel’s former glory through historical postcards collected from around the globe. Numerous precious early photos of villas, Victoria Park, the British Club, the Country Club, the racecourse, and the first newspaper, the "Peking and Tientsin Times," comprehensively recount the history of how Tianjin established its nine concession areas — almost like a microcosm of modern Chinese history.

Among the many exhibits, a silver key engraved with the hotel’s logo stands out, dating back to 1925. This silver key was presented as a keepsake to Ms. W. O’Hara after she presided over the opening ceremony following the hotel’s renovation. It was recently donated by her grandson for display and preservation in the museum.
