Fengming Mountain is a national AA-level tourist attraction.

Fengming Mountain Scenic Area (also known as Fairy Maiden Cave), covers an area of approximately 5 square kilometers. It lies to the south of Bailou Mountain, a range of peaks resembling a cluster of buildings, which is an extension of the northern foot of Siming Mountain. To the east, it neighbors the Siming Lake Scenic Area in Yuyao City, and to the west, it connects to Zhujiazhuang, the hometown of Zhu Yingtai from the legendary “Butterfly Lovers” story. Huanzhu Village, located 1 kilometer from the mountain’s base, was the hometown of Meng Chang, a renowned honest official of the Eastern Han Dynasty; Dongxi Village, located 4.5 kilometers southwest of the town, was the hermitage of Fan Li, a strategist of the Yue State during the Spring and Autumn Period who “entered the Five Lakes after leaving the Three Rivers,” where the Tao Zhu Temple was built. The scenic area features gentle slopes and broad valleys, with layered mountains, rugged rocks, splashing mountain springs, and dense forests, offering a pristine natural environment. Fengming Mountain has a rich historical and cultural heritage and is known as the site of the “Ninth Minor Grotto-Heaven” in Taoist culture, acclaimed as a “blessed land of grotto-heavens.” Since ancient times, it has been a famed tourist destination and now includes the “Ten Scenic Spots of Fengming.” Among them, the Hanging Stone Waterfall and the Millennium Ancient Vine (also called the “Mountain-Crossing Dragon”) are considered wonders, forming part of the provincial-level Cao’e River Scenic Area. In the 1950s, the first color film in China, “The Butterfly Lovers (Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai),” was filmed here.

The Fengming Cave Waterfall is located midway up Fengming Mountain in Fenghui Town, hence the name “Fengming.” There is also a legend that a long time ago, a woman became immortal here, hence the name “Fairy Maiden.” Another tale says that Wei Boyang of the Eastern Han Dynasty refined elixirs here and ascended to immortality upon completion. The stone cave is a huge crevice on a sheer cliff, formed either by geological shifts or water erosion. The cave entrance is only wide enough for one or two people to enter or exit at a time. Inside the cave, a mountain spring cascades down from over 10 meters above, creating a misty waterfall. Several large rocks are lodged horizontally across the cave ceiling between the two cliffs.

Transportation: Trains on the Xiaoshan–Ningbo Railway all stop at Shangyu Station. The Hangzhou–Ningbo Expressway and the 104 National Highway intersect with the Shangsan Expressway in Shangyu. Located 4 kilometers southeast of Fenghui Town, the ancient county seat of Shangyu, and 16.5 kilometers from downtown Baiguan. Fengfeng Highway leads directly to the mountain’s base; there are also direct buses from the Shangyu East Bus Station.
