Shangyu Cui Ming Tea is very famous, mainly produced in the tea-growing regions of the towns and villages in the southern part of Shangyu District, Shaoxing City. The Cui Ming Tea being introduced today is called Juenong Cui Ming Tea, which is a type of green tea. The name is in honor of a “modern tea sage” who made great contributions to China’s tea industry. Juenong refers to Mr. Wu Juenong.

Mr. Wu Juenong was a well-known local luminary from Shangyu and is regarded as China’s “modern tea sage.” He was a renowned patriotic democrat and social activist, an eminent agronomist and agricultural economist. His book *A Commentary on the Classic of Tea* is one of the most authoritative works on Lu Yu’s *The Classic of Tea*.

He was the first to argue that China is the birthplace of the tea plant. He established the first tea science department at a Chinese university, helped establish the China National Tea Company, and made outstanding contributions to the development of China’s tea industry and the realization of the dream of making China a global leader in tea.

Juenong Cui Ming Tea strictly adheres to the picking standard of “one bud and one leaf.” After picking, the tea is directly fixed, rolled, and dried.

The tea has a flower-roll shape with a lush emerald green color; the tea liquor is bright apricot-green; the aroma is high, fresh, and long-lasting; the taste is mellow, rich, and refreshing; the leaves at the bottom are tender, even, and form neat, bright green buds.
