Kangjia Lake

Kangjia Lake is located in Huti Village. It is longer from east to west and shorter from north to south, taking on an irregular oval shape. The water area covers 315 mu, with a water storage capacity of 510,000 cubic meters. Due to silt accumulation, the lake contains many suspended shoals (islets) of varying sizes and shapes, including Mubeiji Shoal, Baishouting Shoal, Meinv Shoal, and Jinqian Shoal. To the north of the shoals lies a smaller Kangjia Lake, affectionately dubbed the “Little West Lake.” The lake is surrounded on all sides by rivers that stretch out like four arms reaching into the distance. For many years, these waterways were heavily trafficked and served as a prime shipping route for goods and passengers across the surrounding region. The lake yields green-shelled snails, whitebait, and fish heads—all prized for their fine flavor. With its picturesque scenery, Kangjia Lake is lined with willows and tallow trees. The scene known as “Autumn Glow over Kang Lake” is particularly awe-inspiring. During the Eastern Jin Dynasty, the eminent statesman Xie An visited the lake and found it so delightful that he chose not to leave. The lake also features the uniquely shaped Kangjia Bridge, verdant bamboo groves, and black-canopied boats that drift in to the rhythmic sound of oars, all contributing to a profound sense of natural beauty. This area is now a designated photography destination in Shaoxing.
