Former Residence of Ma Yifu
The former residence of Ma Yifu is a cultural tourism attraction and a patriotic education base.
The former residence of Ma Yifu is situated in the center of Houzhuang Village (now Changtang Village), Changtang Town. It was originally part of the Zhao family estate, locally known as the Zhao Family Courtyard. Built in November of the Jiaqing Year of the Wooden Ox (1805 AD) during the Qing Dynasty, it was constructed by the son of Zhao Ouzhang. The property consists of a front, middle, and rear courtyard, enclosed by a stone slab wall (with blue bricks measuring 27※37cm). The front faces a large garden area, while the rear has an inner river dock. Ma Yifu lived on the west side of the middle courtyard, specifically in rooms one, two, and three beside the Zhao family’s main building. The connecting room between the main building and the central hall served as the kitchen, and the floors were all paved with blue bricks. Later, due to the Taiping Rebellion and the passage of time, only the bedroom and study of Ma Yifu’s former residence remain. Though much has changed, the residence shines like a light piercing through the darkness, forever illuminating the skies above Changtang.
