Dingzhai Township
Dingzhai Township is located in the southeastern part of Shangyu District, Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province. Historically known as the "Mulberry and Silkworm Hometown of Southern China," in 2009, it covered an area of 43 square kilometers, governed 9 administrative villages, and had a population of 11,000. The Baihuan Highway and Bai Zhang Highway intersect within Dingzhai, making it a transportation hub in the mountainous region of Yuyue. The construction of the four-lane Bai Zhang Highway allows travelers to reach the Shangsan Expressway in just 10 minutes by heading west from Dingzhai, or to access the Shanghai-Hangzhou-Ningbo Expressway in 20 minutes by traveling north through Shangyu City, further enhancing Dingzhai’s role as a regional transport hub.
Dingzhai Township enjoys sound economic development momentum. Since the reform and opening-up, the enterprising people of Dingzhai have seized opportunities and made full use of their abundant land resources to vigorously adjust the agricultural industrial structure. This has led to the establishment of eight major agricultural production bases: silkworms and mulberry, fruit mulberry, chestnut, tea, bamboo shoots, strawberries, green plums, and honey peaches. The total area of economic forests has reached 15,000 mu, highlighting the area’s strength in agricultural produce. Leveraging local sand and stone resources and labor advantages, the township has also actively developed three key industrial sectors—textiles, hardware, and building materials—achieving a total industrial output value of 400 million yuan. This has fostered a model where industry and agriculture coexist, industry enriches agriculture, and agricultural activities provide seasonal employment.
