Cao’e River Sluice Water Conservancy Scenic Area
The Cao’e River Sluice Water Conservancy Scenic Area is a national water conservancy scenic area.
The Cao’e River Sluice Water Conservancy Scenic Area is located in the northern part of Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province, on the southern shore of Hangzhou Bay, in the core area of Shaoxing Coastal New Town, at the confluence of the Qiantang River and the Cao’e River. It is built around the Cao’e River Sluice Hub Project.
The scenic area is a natural river-lake type water conservancy scenic area. The sluice hub is a national key project primarily focused on tide prevention, flood control, and waterlogging management, while also integrating comprehensive uses such as water resource development and utilization, water environment protection, navigation, and tourism. It is recognized as China’s—and even Asia’s—“No. 1 Estuarine Sluice,” boasting high technological content and unique engineering landscapes. When viewing the sluice from the outside, you can witness the majestic surging tides of the Qiantang River, while the inside presents the tranquil, mirror-like waters of the Cao’e River. During flood discharge periods, the overwhelming sight of towering white waves and the thunderous rush of the current beneath your feet is truly awe-inspiring. Great attention was paid to the scenic design of the project, cultural exploration, and ecological restoration of the surrounding areas during the sluice’s construction. It has now become a new highlight of Shaoxing’s cultural and eco-tourism, combining a modern engineering model, the charm of water town culture, and the pastoral ecological landscape.
