Fuzhi Mountain Terraces

The Fuzhi Mountain Terraces in Shangyu are located halfway up Fuzhi Mountain, surrounded by four ancient villages — Dongcheng, Liangzhai, Pingshan, and Dingshan. The terraces cascade down from the mountainside and layer upwards from the foothills. These terraces are entirely built from rocks originating from Quaternary glacial relics — known as “rock glaciers.”

The beautiful terraces and rugged rocks form an unconventional combination. It is said that if the individual rocks were lined up, they would stretch the equivalent of a round trip from Shangyu to Beijing. Experts from Beijing who visited Shangyu were amazed, exclaiming: “These terraces are incredibly beautiful and can absolutely rival the Yuanyang Terraces in Yunnan.”

Lingnan Township: Located at the southernmost tip of Shangyu, Lingnan Township sits at the junction of Shangyu, Shengzhou, and Yuyao. It was formed in 1992 through the merger of the former Fuzhi Township and Lingnan Township. Covering a total area of 57.4 square kilometers, it is a mountainous township with a beautiful ecological environment and abundant natural resources. The township has 61,000 mu of forested land, with a forest coverage rate of 71.4%, earning it the title of a “natural oxygen bar.” The highest peak in the city, Fuzhi Mountain, stands at an elevation of 861.3 meters and is located within the township. Fuzhi Mountain got its name from Xie Lingyun, the father of landscape poetry, who was said to have “climbed the mountain, drunk wine, and overturned his wine cup (fuzhi).” The area also features ancient stones referred to by scholars as one of the “Three Wonders of Yuezhou”...
