Zhang Zuoxiang, courtesy name Fuchen (1881–1949), was from Yi County, Fengtian (now Liaoning Province). He was a general of the Fengtian Clique warlords. Graduating from the Northeast Military Academy in 1911, he assisted Zhang Zuolin and his son Zhang Xueliang...

in governing the Northeast. He served as Vice Commander of the Northeast Border Defense Forces and Chairman of the Jilin Provincial Government. In 1933, he resigned due to the loss of Rehe, and came to Tianjin where he purchased this building to live in seclusion. During this time, the Japanese puppet regime repeatedly tried to coerce and tempt him into taking up a collaborationist position, but he refused all offers. In early 1949, Zhang Zuoxiang died suddenly of a heart attack in his residence.

The building is bordered by Hubei Road to the east, Chongqing Road to the south, Macao Road to the west, and Zhengzhou Road to the north. It covers a land area of 1,619 square meters and has a construction area of 1,370 square meters. It is a three-story Western-style brick-concrete structure with exquisite architectural design. The façade features varied undulations, adorned with Western-style carvings, and the roofline is staggered with a combination of flat and sloped sections, giving it a distinctive style. There are bluestone steps on both sides of the main building, and the interior is luxuriously decorated with finely crafted fireplaces, making it a Western classical-style architecture. The current condition of the building is quite good.
