Wang Zhanyuan (1861–1933), courtesy name Zichun, was from Guantao, Shandong. A military man by background, he graduated from the Beiyang Military Preparatory School and held positions such as company commander, battalion commander, brigade commander, and division commander. In 1916, he served as the Governor and Military Governor of Hubei. In 1920, he became the Inspector General of Hubei and Hunan but was forced to resign due to the defeat of Hubei troops. During the two Zhili-Anhui Wars of 1922 to 1924, after the Zhili clique's defeat, he settled in Tianjin and engaged in industry and commerce. He owned extensive real estate in Tianjin, Beijing, Baoding, Jinan, Dalian, and Guantao, and invested in textiles, flour milling, finance, electricity, and coal mining. The residence is built with a brick-and-wood structure, with each building featuring an asymmetrical floor plan. The main structure has two floors, with parts extending to three, combining square and round forms in its exterior. A large awning is built on the second-floor terrace. The complex consists of four buildings: the one facing the entrance was Wang’s residence, while the others were lived in by his sons.
