Anqi Peak

: Located in the southeastern part of Peach Blossom Island, there are two hiking trails, one to the north and one to the south. The northern trail starts following the terrain, built along the stream, shaded by lush trees, with the highest summer temperature not exceeding 28°C. At the southern foot lies Shengyan Temple, founded in the fourth year of the Tongzhi era of the Qing Dynasty (1866). Legend has it that An Qisheng once lived in a cave here refining elixirs, hence the name Alchemy Cave. In 1986, three halls including the Guanyin Hall and the Mahavira Hall were rebuilt below the cave, comprising over 20 rooms, along with a liberation pond. Zhao Puchu, president of the Buddhist Association of China, inscribed the plaque “Shengyan Temple.” On the stone walls beside the cave are inscriptions such as “The First Mountain of the Sea Islands,” “A Sacred Practice Field in Spring,” and “On the White Cloud Mountain, immortals and buddhas reside, while disciples come to worship.” Beside the cave is a pool of azure water, incredibly cool all year round and never drying up, known as “Holy Water.” It is said that An Qisheng once used this water for alchemy, which had miraculous healing effects.
