Kongshan White Cloud Cave
It is located on the Kongshan Mountain at the southern end of Baiyun Mountain, hence the name Kongshan White Cloud Cave. It is a newly discovered large-scale karst cave in northern China. According to experts, 500 million years ago, this area was a warm shallow sea environment where limestone strata were deposited on the seabed. Later, crustal movements turned the ocean into hills, and the dissolution of limestone by groundwater created this rare cave in the north. Currently, five cave chambers have been preliminarily explored and opened to visitors, covering a total area of over 4,000 square meters, with a total tour route length of four Chinese miles and more than 150 major scenic spots. There are six exceptionally rare marvels, and the cave maintains a constant temperature of 17°C year-round. Based on the landscape features of each chamber, experts have named the five caves “Human World,” “Heaven,” “Labyrinth,” “Underworld,” and “Dragon Palace.”
Human World Chamber
The Human World Chamber is 70 meters long, 35 meters wide, and 18 meters high. Major attractions include reticulated twisted stones, Overlord’s Whip, Sky-Supporting Pillar, Hanging Temple, and Golden Cicada Playing with Goldfish. The cave is filled with stalagmites, stone pagodas, stalactites, and stone pillars. The largest stone pillar stands 8.5 meters tall with a girth of 4.3 meters, known as the Sky-Supporting Pillar. Stone flowers formed by repeated dripping and calcification from the cave ceiling are abundant. The “reticulated twisted stones” are a unique feature of Kongshan White Cloud Cave, extremely rare in other caves in China.
Heaven Chamber
The Heaven Chamber is 120 meters long, 65 meters wide, and 20 meters high, making it the largest chamber in the cave. The hall is adorned with hanging curtains and drapes, luxurious and magnificent, resembling heaven. Major attractions include “Mistaken Realities,” formed by the relative displacement of stalactites and stalagmites due to crustal movements; “Unexpected Branches,” twisted stones growing horizontally like tree branches; “Jade Hairpin and Silver Vase,” exquisitely beautiful and considered the second marvel of Kongshan White Cloud Cave; and “Galaxy Descending from the Sky,” whose powdery calcified surface, known as moonmilk in geology, holds high scientific value for the study of geology and ancient climates. Other sights include the Ten-Thousand-Year Lingzhi, Thousand-Year Immortal Mushrooms, Stone Harp, Jade Dragon Piercing the Sky, and Yaochi Pool.
Dragon Palace Chamber
The Dragon Palace Chamber is filled with exquisite stalactites and numerous pools, closely resembling a dragon’s palace. The tour route spans one Chinese mile with a drop of about 50 meters and features over 50 named attractions. These include Lotus Supporting Pagoda, Drunken Ape Hugging Pagoda, Jade Dragon Lying in Wait, Twin Pagodas Vying for Supremacy, Linear Stone Tubes, and Twin Turtles Kissing the Dragon Son’s Fairy Pavilion. The “Linear Stone Tubes” are straight, uniform in shape, hollow in the middle, and considered a marvel of the cave. The “Fairy Mountain Jade Pavilion” is the essence of Kongshan White Cloud Cave. This chamber has a dense arrangement of sights—each step reveals multiple scenes and changing views—including stone flowers, stalagmites, stalactites, stone waterfalls, stone curtains, and colorful stone drapes. Its richness and diversity are highly representative. Among them, needle-like stone flowers are unique to this cave and are another marvel not found elsewhere.
Underworld Chamber
The Underworld Chamber is filled with grotesque rocks, creating an eerie and terrifying atmosphere reminiscent of the underworld. Major attractions include the One-Eyed Monster, Judge, Forest of Towers, and Ox Head. These strange rock formations were shaped by flowing water erosion and dissolution.
