Introduction

Located southeast of the main island of Mount Putuo, Mount Luojia is like a "satellite" of Mount Putuo. Viewed from the eastern coast of the main island, it looks like a giant Buddha lying on the sea, earning it the nickname "Reclining Buddha on the Sea." To visit Mount Luojia, you must take a boat from the main island of Mount Putuo. The island isn't heavily crowded, and its temples and lighthouse are must-see attractions.

After entering the gate of Mount Putuo, walk right for about five minutes to reach Luojia Cihang. Take a boat from the Ougu Passenger Terminal to Mount Luojia, sailing across the Lotus Sea for about 30 minutes. Usually, there is one boat per day at 8:00, 9:00, and 13:00, with a round-trip fare of 70 yuan. Boats depart from Mount Luojia at 10:00, 11:00, and 15:00. The above times and prices are for reference only; schedules may vary depending on weather and passenger numbers. On the mountain, you can visit the Yuantong Chan Temple (Yuantong Nunnery), the Great Mercy Hall, the Great Awakening Hall, the Sangharama Hall, the Five Hundred Arhats Pagoda, and the Forty-Eight Vows Pagoda. The ancient Dragon Spring Well, Immortal Bridge, and Crystal Palace exude a timeless charm. Most notably, the lighthouse on the small hill to the northeast is the legendary "Luojia Beacon." In ancient times, it was merely a lantern platform used to guide ships at night. Ancient poets praised it as "a flickering light guiding lost souls, outshining the sun and moon on Mount Sumeru." Today, the lantern platform has been transformed into the Luojia Mountain International Lighthouse, guiding vessels. However, visitors cannot enter the lighthouse but can view it from the stone tablet marking "Luojia Ling Mountain."

To buy tickets and take the boat, go to the Duangu Pier under the Nantianmen Archway. Round-trip boat tickets cost 52 RMB, with a 22-minute voyage. Free drinking water (cold and hot) is available on the mountain, but no food is sold.

Transportation

Take a ferry from Mount Putuo to Mount Luojia, a journey of about 30 minutes. Boats depart daily from the Ougu Passenger Terminal, with three daily trips: Mount Putuo to Mount Luojia at 7:00, 8:00, and 13:00; Mount Luojia to Mount Putuo at 9:00, 10:00, and 15:00.
