Putuo Mountain Shancai Cave

Shancai Cave is located in the northeastern part of Putuo Mountain and shares the same scenic area as the Fanjing Cave. The cave is dedicated to the bodhisattva Shancai Tongzi (Sudhana). As it symbolizes wealth and prosperity, worshippers from Fujian and overseas Chinese from Southeast Asia often visit Shancai Cave to pray for fortune. Nowadays, visitors from all over come here to seek wealth.

The ancient cave faces the sea on both sides, with steep slopes and blue waters behind the temple, and undulating pine-covered hills. In front, green mountains form a natural screen, filled with birdsong and floral fragrance. Standing quietly in front of the cave, one can faintly hear the sound of the tides rolling in, with no other worldly noise. Though called a cave, it isn't truly a cave but rather a rock crevice about 1.5 meters deep and 4 meters wide, covered by a massive flat stone overhead.
