Wushi Gravel Beach is located on the western shore of Zhangzhou Bay, stretching 500 meters in length, 100 meters in width, and 5 meters in height. These smooth, round black stones are nature’s masterpiece. About one hundred million years ago during the Yanshan Movement, under the force of sea waves, the mountains on both sides of the bay fractured and collapsed, sending rocks of various sizes tumbling into the seabed. Zhangzhou Harbor faces the East China Sea. Whenever the east wind blows, bringing strong gusts and rough seas, the constant erosion from waves and tides over the years gradually wears down the sharp edges of the stones, turning them into smooth, glossy pebbles. Washed ashore by the waves, these stones accumulate to form the spectacular Wushi Gravel Beach. On moonlit nights, the sound of the tide and the friction of the stones resonate together — listening to the tide among the black stones is a truly unique experience.

Legend has it that Wushi Gravel Beach is the incarnation of a black dragon, a story particularly appealing to children. It is said that the Black Dragon was the third prince of the Dragon King of the East China Sea — mischievous, clever, and full of spirit. One day, unable to bear the loneliness of the dragon palace, he ventured out to explore. Just as he was having fun, he encountered a group of shark spirits who, having heard that eating dragon meat could make them immortal, lunged at the little Black Dragon all at once. Outnumbered and overwhelmed, the young dragon retreated step by step toward Lotus Ocean, with the sharks hot on his tail. At this critical moment, fishermen from Zhujiajian who were out catching fish spotted the injured little dragon. They bravely rescued him and carefully nursed him back to health in Zhangzhou Bay. From then on, the little Black Dragon formed a deep bond with the local fishermen. To repay their kindness, he chose to stay in Zhangzhou Bay, vowing to guard the shoreline and protect the local people. Over time, the little dragon lay down in the bay, and his dragon scales gradually transformed into the countless black stones seen today. Day and night, he watches over the sea. When a storm is approaching, he shakes his scales and lets out a mighty roar to warn the fishermen to return to shore.

Another scenic highlight at the entrance of the area is a model of a green-eyebrow sailboat. This boat is 18 meters long and 6.8 meters wide, and is modeled after the "Green Eyebrow · Zhujiajian." The green-eyebrow sailboat is an ancient type of vessel originating from Zhejiang, mainly found in Ningbo, Wenzhou, and the Zhoushan Archipelago. Its main features include a flat, round hull and a ship’s head shaped like a beautiful bird. A section of the hull above the circular “bird eye” on the side of the bow is painted green, curving like an eyebrow. Thus, whether viewed from the side or front, the bow resembles a graceful bird — hence the name “Green Eyebrow.”

Wushi Pond Water Park is a water-based recreational and competitive venue that blends fun, intelligence, and challenge — ideal for outdoor parent-child activities. The park offers over twenty attractions, including a five-tier rope-swing crossing, lovers’ bridge, chain bridge, hero bridge, hoop bridge, and tree-trunk swing bridge. It features two areas: Zone A (deeper water) and Zone B (shallower water), making it suitable for aquatic games between parents and children. Kids can also enjoy splashing around in the Loach River, catching loaches and reliving the fun of rural stream adventures.

The scenic area also offers a range of fishing-themed activities: parents and children can board fishing boats to work together hauling crab traps, and even grill the freshly caught crabs right on the boat. There's nothing quite like savoring the crabs you've caught yourself. It’s a meaningful experience for urban kids to try life as fishermen.

Scenic Spot Ticket Prices: Low season 30 RMB (November – April), High season 40 RMB (May – October)

Ticket Discounts: 1. Children between 1.2m and 1.5m enter at half price, those over 1.5m pay full price. 2. Seniors aged 70 and above can enter free of charge with valid ID. 3. Seniors aged 60–70, minors aged 6 (exclusive) to 18 (inclusive), and full-time university undergraduates and below can enjoy a 50% discount with valid ID.

Transportation

Buses run from Zhujiajian (Dadong’ao) Bus Station to Wushi Gravel Beach, just a 10-minute ride away. If no bus is available, a three-wheeled motor taxi from Dadong’ao costs only 5 RMB.
