Dongji Historical and Cultural Museum

The Dongji Historical and Cultural Museum is located on Zhongjie Mountain Road, Miaozihu Town, Dongji. With an exhibition area of 450 square meters, it is divided into three themed exhibition halls: the Lisbon Maru Shipwreck Memorial, the Folk Customs Hall, and the Fishermen’s Painting Gallery. It houses nearly 450 exhibits in total. The museum is deeply rooted in local culture, with exhibits drawn from everyday life, reflecting the local people’s love for life. It is a historical and cultural museum that combines artistry, entertainment, and education, and is praised by outsiders as “the most eastern beauty.”

The Lisbon Maru Shipwreck Memorial primarily displays pictorial and textual introductions to the Lisbon Maru shipwreck event that occurred on October 2, 1942, in the waters off Dongji. It also exhibits relics left behind by Dongji fishermen who bravely rescued stranded British soldiers, as well as daily necessities and items used by the British troops. The Folk Customs Exhibition Hall has collected nearly 200 items of early daily life and production tools used by the people of Dongji, along with models of Dongji fishing boats from the past 100 years, showcasing their evolution from small sailing boats to wooden sailboats, engine-powered sailboats, and steel fishing vessels. The Fishermen’s Painting Gallery displays nearly 150 works by 30 artists from different periods.

Transportation

In Zhoushan, you can take bus routes 3, 6, 7, 9, 13, 15, 20, or 29 to Ban Shengdong Station, then walk a few minutes to reach the Shenjiamen Ban Shengdong Wharf, where you can take a ferry to Miaozihu Island.

Shenjiamen – Miaozihu

Ferries depart from Shenjiamen at 8:30 am daily, with the return trip at 11:00 am.

Lower cabin: 100 RMB, middle cabin: 130 RMB, upper cabin: 150 RMB. The journey takes about 2 hours.

After arriving at Miaozihu, you can walk to the museum.
