Pumen Ten Thousand Buddhas Pagoda

Pumen Ten Thousand Buddhas Pagoda, located at the foot of Longtou Mountain in the northeast corner of Mount Putuo, Putuo District, Zhoushan City, sits opposite Baotuo Lecture Temple. It is a newly built Buddhist pagoda in modern times. It earned its name for enshrining ten thousand gilded copper statues of Guanyin Bodhisattva in nine different forms.

The Ten Thousand Buddhas Pagoda project commenced construction in 2002 with a total investment of over 40 million yuan. The pagoda backs onto the main peak of Foding Mountain. It features an octagonal, multi-eaved pavilion-style structure with a blue-glazed tile spire. The pagoda has nine stories and thirteen eaves, with a total height of 72.26 meters including the finial. Inside, it houses ten thousand gilded copper statues of Guanyin Bodhisattva in nine different forms. In front of the pagoda, there is a worship platform, stone steps for climbing, and an exquisitely carved stone archway modeled after Longquan Temple on Mount Wutai. Behind the pagoda lies a main hall with a single-eave, hip-and-gable roof.

On the morning of May 10, 2011, the consecration ceremony was held simultaneously for Baotuo Lecture Temple, the fourth-largest temple on Mount Putuo, and Pumen Ten Thousand Buddhas Pagoda.
