The Grand Hall of Great Compassion, the main hall of Puji Temple, is equivalent to the Mahavira Hall in most temples. "Great Compassion" is an epithet of the Bodhisattva Guanyin, and this hall is dedicated to her. The hall is grand and majestic, measuring seven bays in width and six in depth, with a double-eaved hip-and-gable roof topped with yellow glazed tiles. It features nine-tiered brackets and a door panel carved with the motif of two dragons playing with a pearl. The hall can accommodate thousands of worshippers and is often referred to as the “living great hall.” The platform in front of the hall is surrounded by carved stone railings, and in the center stands a steel tripod incense burner about 4 meters high, inscribed with characters such as “Puji Chan Temple” and “Thousand-Year Precious Tripod.”

At the center of the hall sits the Bodhisattva Guanyin, standing 8.8 meters tall (the statue of Guanyin in the lotus position itself is 6.5 meters high, with a 2.3-meter-high base). She is entirely golden, with delicate features, a serene expression, and a compassionate smile. Beside her stand her disciples, the boy Sudhana and the Dragon Girl, both with innocent and lively expressions.

No separate ticket required. The Puji Temple admission fee of 5 RMB is included. Additionally, the entrance fee for Mount Putuo Scenic Area is: Off-season (December – January of the following year) 140 RMB, Peak season (February – November) 160 RMB, 200 RMB during Spring Festival, May Day, and National Day holidays.
