Shen Court in Zhoushan

Shen Court is a replica of ancient residential architecture, covering a land area of 17,000 square meters with a building area of 747 square meters. Construction began in February 2005, and it was completed and opened to the public on January 16, 2007. It is a Sino-Korean friendship and cultural park built to commemorate Shen Qing, a filial daughter from Baekje (Korea) who married into Putuo during the Jin Dynasty.

Shen Court is not far from Shenjiamen. It carries the legacy of a filial daughter’s story and freezes a moment in the history of Sino-Korean exchanges. At first glance, Shen Court gives off a Japanese aesthetic, characterized by the refined charm of a Japanese garden — a feature that becomes quite understandable when you consider that Japan once ruled the Korean Peninsula, and thus Korean gardens were subtly influenced by Japanese landscaping. The courtyard features exquisitely carved pavilions, terraces, and towers, with artfully arranged rockeries and gravel. In the center of the court lies a pool of clear green water, with a graceful figure standing within, delicate and poised.
