Putuo Dengbu Island Battle Site Park is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Dengbu Island War Site Park was built against the historical backdrop of the Battle of Dengbu Island—one of the two major naval battles in modern China over 50 years ago. It consists of the Dengbu Island Battle Martyrs' Monument, the Dengbu Island Battle Exhibition Hall, the Fishing and Farming Culture Leisure Square, and the Xixiao Youth National Defense Education Base. To ensure that the general public, especially young people, remember the heroic deeds of the People's Liberation Army, understand the turbulent times of the past, carry forward revolutionary traditions, root themselves in reality, envision the future, comprehend their responsibilities, our township has developed a series of educational activities using this base. Here is an introduction to our township’s patriotic education base.

The Dengbu Fishing and Farming Culture Leisure Square is located at the foot of the mountain where the Dengbu Island Revolutionary Martyrs’ Monument stands. It is an important part of our township’s patriotic education base—the Dengbu Island Battle Site Park. With a total investment of 1.8 million yuan, it was completed in early May 2006. We have not only built the square as a leisure place for fishermen and farmers but also turned it into a venue for patriotic publicity and education as well as the dissemination of spiritual civilization.

The Dengbu Island Battle Martyrs’ Monument was built in 1999 on the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Dengbu Island, with a total investment of 500,000 yuan. The monument is 15.7 meters high and features a two-winged, four-edged structure. The main site is rectangular, measuring 24.5 meters in length and 16.5 meters in width, covering an area of 400 square meters. The front of the monument features a brownish-red granite base engraved with eight gilded clerical script characters reading “Eternal Glory to the Revolutionary Martyrs.” The back of the main plaque bears the handwritten words of Hu Wei, former commander of the 61st Division: “Together with the people of the precious island, we endure forever with the blue sea and green mountains.” The rear of the monument base is a brownish-red granite surface engraved with the “Inscription on the Dengbu Island Battle Martyrs’ Monument.” Since its completion, the monument has received over 10,000 visitors, including veterans of the former 61st Division, military personnel from the Zhoushan Naval Base, the Zhoushan Garrison Area, and tourists from within and outside the district. It has gradually become our main base for commemorating martyrs and receiving education.

The Dengbu Island Battle Exhibition Hall has relocated several times, with the new hall completed in 2005. It is among the first batch of clean governance culture bases in Putuo District. The exhibition hall covers a total area of 150 square meters, divided into two floors. The first floor serves as a reception area, while the second floor is the exhibition room. The name of the hall was inscribed by Hu Wei, former commander of the 61st Division. The exhibits include photos and artifacts, along with a large-scale sand table simulating the Battle of Dengbu Island. The exhibition hall is open free of charge to the public and tourists from outlying islands at all times.

The Xixiao Military Education Base in Dengbu Township is a youth national defense education base for the district. It currently has 15 military-style dormitories with 120 beds, a 1,500-square-meter activity area, a 200-square-meter obstacle training ground, and facilities such as a fishing pond, radio direction finding equipment, bamboo boats, and barbecue grills. It offers activity programs including beach salt production, radio direction finding, obstacle crossing, queue training, trench revisits, the clever crossing of the Jinsha River, mine sweeping, fishing pond fishing, barbecues, bonfire parties, and emergency drills. During the summer vacation in July and August, we coordinate with local youths and connect with schools from outside the island to bring them to our township for national defense education and military experience.

Dengbu Township: Dengbu Island is located on the coast of the East China Sea within the Zhoushan Archipelago. It lies at the center of the golden tourism triangle formed by Mount Putuo, Zhujiajian, and Peach Blossom Island, about 5.5 nautical miles from Shenjiamen Fishing Port. The island has a land area of 14.46 square kilometers and a population of 5,811.
