Xiwan Scenic Area

Xiwan Scenic Area is located in the southeastern part of Pingyang County, bordering the East China Sea to the east, reaching the mouth of the Ao River to the south, backed by Mocheng to the west, and facing the Feiyun River to the north, covering a total area of 17 square kilometers. The scenic area is characterized by numerous bays, expansive beaches, secluded caves, and dense reefs and rocks, all featuring distinct layering, rich colors, and unique shapes. The scenic area can be divided from south to north into five major zones: Yangyushan, Ersha, Xi’aoke, Xiwan, and Tiaotou.

The Yangyushan Zone centers around Yangyushan, an island in the mouth of the Ao River with an area of 0.28 square kilometers. The island’s center is 0.95 kilometers from the mainland edge, and its shoreline is marked by steep cliffs and standing rocks, along with distinctive sea-eroded wave beaches and numerous caves. From afar, you can view the beacon fire, the spectacular sight of a giant turtle carrying a mountain, Shuanglong Cave, Shen Gui Cave, and Guanyin Cave—key attractions in this zone.

The Ersha Zone is a distinctive area within Xiwan Scenic Area, where overlapping sea-eroded cliffs serve as an endless source of inspiration for photographers and artists. Small murals, the Stone Corridor, Tide-Listening Cave, and Golden Peak are among the highlights here.

The Xi’aoke Zone lies in the central part of Xiwan Scenic Area. This section features numerous caves, widespread rocky cliffs and sandy beaches, with one bay after another. Key attractions include Mengyin Cave, Wanshang Painting Wall, Tiandu Stone Pillar, and Owl Rock.

The Xiwan Zone is dominated by cliff murals, reefs, and stone plateau landscapes. Key features include Xiaoyangshan, Hengzhou, Longtan, Jimu Chaoguang Point, and Huangjia Dadao.

The Tiaotou Zone is a comprehensive area formed by fishing villages, steep cliffs, beaches, Niangniang Temple, Sangao Hall, and a beacon tower. Highlights of this zone include Baibu Golden Sand, Beacon Camp, Mo’gan Bay, Sisters Cave, and Danxin Rock. (The scenic area has over 100 caves, 14 beaches of varying sizes, 6 islands, 12 beacon towers, four major wonders, and numerous myths and legends.)
