Guoxing'ao

Guoxing'ao is situated in the slightly northern part of the main island of Nanji. The bay entrance spans 1,000 meters in width and the bay itself extends 1,900 meters in length. Enclosed by mountains on three sides, it serves as the only reliable sheltered harbor within the Nanji Archipelago and functions as an important military port. Ships moored here are secure from southeast, southwest, and northeast winds (though strong northwest gales remain a concern). The national hero Zheng Chenggong, bestowed the title of Prince of Yanping, rose up at sea in an effort to restore the Ming Dynasty. He once stationed his troops here, trained naval forces, assembled various contingents, set sail with arms, and launched an eastern expedition to drive out the Dutch colonizers and reclaim Taiwan, a territory of the motherland. Ancient relics such as cliff inscriptions and the Guoxing Temple remain on the island. Visiting Guoxing'ao can inspire patriotic fervor among visitors.
