The Former Site of the Pingyang Uprising Command is a classic red tourism attraction and a patriotic education base.

In January 1928, after provincial party special envoy Zheng Xin arrived in Wenzhou to convey the spirit of the “August 7th Meeting,” the Communist Party committees of Yongjia, Rui’an, and Pingyang counties were successively established. From then on, the peasant movement in southern Zhejiang developed rapidly, and some areas began to form district-level party organizations and establish peasant Red Guards. In June of the same year, counties including Yongjia, Rui’an, and Pingyang organized a joint meeting of party leaders, deciding to launch a joint uprising in Yong, Rui, and Ping counties. According to the overall plan of the joint meeting, Pingyang established an uprising leadership group, setting up the city assault command post at the Song family’s Western-style house in Xiaxue Village, Lianchuan, Wanquan (now under Zhenglou Town), where over 1,000 armed peasants and salt workers from Jiangnan, Wanquan, and other areas were gathered. Led by Ye Tingpeng, Wu Xinzhi, and others, they launched attacks on the county town from the southeast, northwest, and northeast directions on the night of the 27th. The uprising forces used red cloth tied around the neck as a symbol, with the password “Red Division,” and agreed to set fire to the Huang family ancestral hall at the west gate of the county town as the signal to attack at midnight. However, due to a tip-off by local gentry, the enemy had already deployed troops outside the city before the various uprising forces reached their designated positions, leading to fierce battles with the main attacking peasant force. During the battle, Ye Tingpeng was shot in the left shoulder. To avoid greater losses, the uprising forces were forced to retreat. At dawn the next day, the enemy surrounded the city assault command post, and the uprising failed. The uprisings in Yongjia and Rui’an also failed for various reasons. Although the joint uprising of the three counties failed, it had a significant political impact and provided valuable lessons and experience for later revolutionary struggles in Pingyang and other areas.

The Former Site of the Pingyang Uprising Command is located at the original Song family’s three-story brick-concrete building with three rooms in Xiaxue Village, Zhenglou Town, Pingyang County.

The Former Site of the Pingyang Uprising Command is a cultural relics protection unit of Pingyang County.
