Former Site of Fenglin Primary School, a Revolutionary Base in Pingyang

The Former Site of Fenglin Primary School, a Revolutionary Base in Pingyang, is a classic red tourism destination.

Fenglin Primary School was an important base for revolutionary activities led by the Party in Pingyang. In the winter of 1930, Communist Party members Ye Tingpeng, Huang Xianhe, and Huang Meiying went to the Fengwo area of Pingyang to carry out revolutionary work and got to know Zheng Haixiao, the principal of Fenglin Primary School. In June 1933, Ye Tingpeng and Huang Xianhe introduced Zheng Haixiao to the Party at Fenglin Primary School. That winter, the Fenglin Branch of the Party was established at the school. Thereafter, many important meetings of the underground Party in Pingyang were held there. Numerous leaflets and slogans of the Pingyang County Committee of the CPC were also printed or written at the school. All teachers hired by the school were either Communist Party members or progressive members of society. The teachers taught during the day and were busy with Party work at night. They often went to nearby villages such as Guanjian, Yuqingyan, Zhang??, Maji, and Dashantun, Xishan, and Xiaokeng in Shanmen to conduct propaganda work. Sometimes they would take Sundays to do mass work and recruit Party members in places dozens of li away, such as Gongyang, Longwei, and Wu??, thereby creating a solid mass foundation. These areas later became important parts of the guerrilla base in southern Zhejiang.

The Former Site of Fenglin Primary School, a Revolutionary Base in Pingyang, is located in Fenglin Village, Fengwo Town, Pingyang County. It was founded in 1930 and originally served as the ancestral hall of the Zheng family. The school building is a single-story structure resembling a traditional northern-style courtyard, covering an area of over 2,000 square meters. It faces southwest and is surrounded by dense trees. The school had five classrooms, with a peak enrollment of around 200 students. In 2000, Fenglin Primary School was merged into Hongjun Primary School (also known as Wutanqiao Central School).
