Former Site of the Pingyang County Peasants' Association
The Former Site of the Pingyang County Peasants' Association is a classic red tourism destination.
Influenced by the successive victories of the Northern Expedition, the revolutionary situation in Pingyang reached a new high. In mid-January 1927, over 70 peasant representatives from across the county gathered in the county seat and held the First Pingyang County Congress at Wulei Palace (the former site of Yangchu Primary School) in Wushanxia Village (now Chengnan Yang’ao Village, Kunyang Town), establishing the Pingyang County Peasants' Association. The congress elected an executive committee, with Zhang Peinong serving as the association’s president. After its establishment, the association led the peasants in vigorous struggles such as rent and interest reduction.
From 1926 to 1930, Wushanxia Village served as a hub for revolutionary communication for areas including Fangyanxia, Wushan, Tangchuan, Da’ao Di, Wanquan, Songqiao, and Yingxue in the southern part of the region. After the “April 12th” counter-revolutionary coup, CPC members Zhang Peinong, Ye Tingpeng, Wu Xinzhi, and others continued to lead peasant movements from Wushanxia Village. In February 1930, progressive youths Chen Fu, Wu Yu, and Mei Kang, along with underground party members like Zhang Peinong, went to Wushanxia Village. Under the cover of teaching positions at Yangchu Primary School, they taught during the day and ran evening classes for peasants and literacy programs for women at night, carrying out underground revolutionary activities.
The Former Site of the Pingyang County Peasants' Association is located at Wulei Palace in Yang’ao Village, Kunyang Town, Pingyang County. In November 1998, the local government built the Wushanxia Revolutionary Memorial Room. Chen Fu, former member of the CPC Zhejiang South Committee and president of the Tianjin High People's Court, inscribed the words “A Single Spark Can Start a Prairie Fire” for the memorial room, while General Jin Ye, former deputy chief of staff of the Nanjing Military Region, inscribed the plaque “Wushanxia Revolutionary Memorial Room.” The room displays photographs related to the revolutionary activities of five martyrs—Ye Tingpeng, Wu Xinzhi, Zhang Peinong, You Fu, and Wu Yu—and three veteran revolutionaries—Chen Fu, Mei Kang, and Chen Weidong—who were active in Wushanxia.
