Qionglingtou Battle Site

The Qionglingtou Battle Site is a cultural tourism attraction and a classic red tourism destination.

On July 21, 1948, the Pingyang County Committee of the Communist Party of China and the soldiers of the 10th District Squad of the Southern Zhejiang Guerrilla Column, led by County Party Secretary Zheng Haixiao, moved from Daaocun Village in Shanmen to Fenggang near Qionglingtou, where they joined forces with the Qingjingli County Committee, led by Liu Zhengfa, and the 2nd County Team of Southern Zhejiang at Qiongling. On the morning of the 21st, the Pingyang County Committee received intelligence that over 100 soldiers from the 7th Company of the 3rd Battalion of the 2nd Regiment of the Zhejiang Security Forces were advancing toward Qionglingtou from the Wencheng direction. At the time, although the 2nd County Team and the 10th District Squad had relatively poor weaponry, their combined combatants outnumbered the Nationalist troops. The Pingyang County Committee and Qingjingli agreed that the 10th District Squad and the 2nd County Team would fight jointly, luring the enemy up the ridge before cutting off their retreat and annihilating them. As planned, under the joint command of Zheng Haixiao and Liu Zhengfa, the 2nd Squad of the 10th District Squad set up an ambush at the ridge to launch a frontal assault on the Nationalist troops, while the 2nd County Team held positions along the gully ridge to block any escape toward Wushi Sidu in Wencheng.

At 2 PM, the 2nd County Team first took up positions on the gully ridge. However, the Nationalist troops arrived early and soon engaged in fierce combat with the 2nd County Team. The 2nd Squad of the 10th District Squad, which was originally scheduled to lie in wait at the Qionglingtou position, decisively changed its battle plan, quickly approaching the enemy's position stealthily along the hillside and launching a sudden strike from behind. Caught in a pincer attack, the Nationalist troops immediately fell into disarray and surrendered en masse. Some remnants fleeing toward Wushi Sidu in Wencheng were also pursued and eliminated. This battle killed 17 enemies, wounded 23 including the company commander, and captured two light machine guns and over 50 rifles of various lengths. After this blow, small armed groups of the Nationalist troops no longer dared to enter the guerrilla zone recklessly.

The Qionglingtou Battle Site is located at the border between Qionglingtou in Huaixi Township, Pingyang County, and Wushi Sidu in Wencheng County. The area features high mountains, long ridges, dense forests, and perilous terrain.
