The Site of the Oath-Taking Rally of the 7th Regiment of the 3rd Detachment of the New Fourth Army Before Marching North to Resist Japan is a classic red tourism attraction.

On the morning of March 18, 1938, Su Yu led over 400 soldiers of the 7th Regiment of the 3rd Detachment of the New Fourth Army (formerly the Red Army Advance Division) from Shanmen Street to march north to resist Japan. When the troops set off, a grand oath-taking rally to march north to resist Japan and a farewell assembly hosted by the CPC RuiPing County Committee were held ceremoniously in front of Shuiwei Palace in Wutanqiao Village, Feng’ao Township. Zheng Haixiao delivered a farewell speech on behalf of the CPC RuiPing County Committee and the local masses. Su Yu expressed the firm determination to fight the war on behalf of all officers and soldiers. Local Party members and masses rushed to see them off. The Anti-Japanese Women’s Federation presented the soldiers with Luohan shoes and embroidered bags filled with eggs and sweet cakes. Teachers and students from Fenglin Primary School put on a performance, and the Peasant Anti-Japanese Self-Defense Corps lined up to salute the soldiers. Villagers, young and old, gathered by the bridge at the village entrance to bid an emotional farewell to the Red Army soldiers. After the rally, the 7th Regiment of the 3rd Detachment of the New Fourth Army left Pingyang, passed through Rui’an, Tai’ping, Yunhe, Lishui, Songyang, Suichang, Longyou, Qu County, Changshan, Kaihua in Zhejiang, and Tunxi in Anhui, marching for a month before arriving at Yansi in She County, southern Anhui on April 18. They were incorporated into the 3rd Battalion of the 4th Regiment of the 2nd Detachment of the New Fourth Army. Su Yu was appointed as the deputy commander of the 2nd Detachment of the New Fourth Army, Yu Longgui as the battalion commander of the 3rd Battalion, and Liu Hengyun as the deputy battalion commander.

The Site of the Oath-Taking Rally of the 7th Regiment of the 3rd Detachment of the New Fourth Army Before Marching North to Resist Japan is located at Shuiwei Palace in Wutanqiao, Fengwo Town (formerly known as Feng’ao Township), Pingyang County. It is a three-room wooden bungalow covering an area of 60 square meters.

The Site of the Oath-Taking Rally of the 7th Regiment of the 3rd Detachment of the New Fourth Army Before Marching North to Resist Japan is a cultural relic protection unit of Pingyang County. It is part of the national red tourism classic attraction — the Old Revolutionary Base Sites Cluster of Southern Zhejiang (Pingyang), and also serves as a national patriotic education base.
