Former Site of the Temporary Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China for Fujian-Zhejiang Border Region

The Former Site of the Temporary Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China for the Fujian-Zhejiang Border Region is a Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit and a classic site on the Red Tourism route.

Three days after New Year’s Day in 1938, the headquarters of the Temporary Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China for the Fujian-Zhejiang Border Region and the Temporary Provincial Military District Command moved to Datun Village in Shanmen Township. The committee’s office was set up in a simple house belonging to Zheng Yongsheng, a poor farmer located southeast of Datun Village. The Training Squadron stayed in Datun alongside the committee, responsible for security duties and training military cadres. The committee’s mimeograph room, radio transmission and reception unit, sewing group, ordnance group, and the Red Army canteen were located in other villagers’ homes in Datun. At that time, this small mountain village, home to only a few dozen households, hosted Red Army soldiers in nearly every household. At the end of February, Zeng Shan, Deputy Secretary and Head of Organization Department of the Southeast Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, along with Long Yue and Yu Longgui, set out from Nanchang, traveled through various places, and arrived in Shanmen, Pingyang on March 5. They came to the Temporary Provincial Committee’s site in Datun Village and held a meeting of the Temporary Provincial Committee of the Fujian-Zhejiang Border Region that same day. Liu Ying, representing the Temporary Provincial Committee, gave a work report, and Zeng Shan conveyed directives from the Central Committee and the Southeast Bureau during the meeting.

The Former Site of the Temporary Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China for the Fujian-Zhejiang Border Region is located in Datun Village, Shanmen Town, Pingyang County. Datun Village lies on the mountainside north of Shanmen Town, at an altitude of over 400 meters. It borders Fengwo to the east, connects to Wencheng to the northwest, is flanked by valleys on the east and west sides, and has a narrow path leading to Shanmen Street to the south. The area features continuous mountain ranges, deep valleys, lush ancient trees, steep terrain, and treacherous roads. In front of the former site is a large courtyard and an open space, suitable for gatherings of many people.

The Former Site of the Temporary Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China for the Fujian-Zhejiang Border Region is a cultural relics protection unit of Pingyang County. It is part of the National Red Tourism Classic Sites — the Former Sites of the Revolutionary Base in Southern Zhejiang (Pingyang), and serves as a national patriotic education base.
