Former Site of the Pingyang County Committee of the CPC in Moshikeng, Meixi

The Former Site of the Pingyang County Committee of the CPC in Moshikeng, Meixi is a classic red tourism attraction.

In 1936, Communist Party members Chen Yangfu, Huang Meiying, and Huang Meijin came to Moshikeng to promote revolutionary ideals and secretly develop party organizations. After the -0 campaign was launched by the die-hard faction of the Kuomintang in the winter of 1939, the Beigang area became a target of heavy enemy “encirclement and suppression,” forcing the relocation of the Pingyang County Committee of the CPC. Because of Moshikeng’s solid mass foundation and rugged terrain, Zheng Haixiao led the county committee to set up its base here. Using Moshikeng as a foothold, they developed a vast secret guerrilla base that included surrounding mountain villages as well as areas such as Nan’ao and Zhongkeng in Cao Village, Rui’an. The county committee was stationed in the cowshed of Moshikeng, with Zheng Haixiao living in the house of Chen Xuan and Li Baihong, located halfway up Qiganmu Mountain at an altitude of about 400 meters on the eastern side of the cowshed. Between 1941 and 1947, Kuomintang troops carried out four “cleansing” operations in Moshikeng, burning down 58 houses, including five thatched cottages belonging to Chen Song and Li Baihong, arresting party members and local residents 157 times, and killing 13 people.

The former site of the Pingyang County Committee in Moshikeng, Meixi, is situated at the border between Meixi Township in Pingyang County and Nan’ao in Cao Village, Rui’an (now part of Lianfeng Administrative Village in the northeastern mountainous area of Meixi Township). The area is flanked by high mountains, dense forests, and thick underbrush. A winding stream runs through the mountains, stretching approximately two to three hundred meters from the mouth to the bottom of the valley. Eighteen stepping stones across the stream serve as the pathway for local mountain residents. At the bottom of the stream lies a large Dragon Pool; crossing the Dragon King Ridge next to the pool leads to areas such as Nan’ao and Xiaokoukou in Cao Village, Rui’an.
