Former Site of the Pingyang County Committee of the CPC in Wangtan

The Former Site of the Pingyang County Committee of the CPC in Wangtan is a classic red tourism destination.

During the Liberation War, the Pingyang County Committee of the CPC moved its headquarters to Wangtan Village and frequently held major events at the Hong Family Ancestral Hall in the village. The County Party Secretary Zheng Haixiao and other committee staff were dispersed among local residents’ homes, with Zheng himself staying in a villager’s “huījiān” (a storage shed for lime ash).

From the end of 1948 to the first half of 1949, the county committee successively held three training sessions for educated youth (referred to as Youth Training Classes) in Wangtan. The first session mainly enrolled about 40 students from Pingyang, Wenzhou, Rui’an, and other areas, divided into four groups. The class was led by Head Teacher Su Song and Deputy Head Teacher Lu Shengliang. Lu Shengliang also served as head teacher for the second and third sessions. Through study and training, the young participants improved their ideological understanding, theoretical knowledge, and policy awareness, strengthened their revolutionary will, and embarked on the path of revolution, making significant contributions to the Liberation War and socialist construction in Pingyang. In April 1949, the county committee held an expanded meeting in Wangtan, adjusting the leadership of various district party committees and establishing an Urban Work Committee. That same month, the county committee held talks with representatives of the Nationalist Zhejiang Security Sixth Regiment in Wangtan to discuss the regiment’s defection.

The Former Site of the Pingyang County Committee of the CPC in Wangtan is located at the Hong Family Ancestral Hall in Wangtan Village, Lingmen Office, Tengjiao Town, Pingyang County. The ancestral hall is a three-room wooden single-story building facing southeast and situated northwest, with a construction area of approximately 100 square meters. There is a road behind the hall and plenty of trees in the surrounding area.

The Former Site of the Pingyang County Committee of the CPC in Wangtan is a cultural relic protection unit of Pingyang County.
