Former Site of the Meeting between the Red Army Advance Detachment and the Southern Zhejiang Red Army Guerrilla Unit

The Former Site of the Meeting between the Red Army Advance Detachment and the Southern Zhejiang Red Army Guerrilla Unit is a classic red tourism destination.

In late July 1936, Su Yu led the main force of the Advance Detachment from Qingyuan to the western part of Rui’an (now part of Wencheng County). Huang Xianhe and other members of the Southern Zhejiang Committee of the Communist Party of China traveled from Baofu to Gongyang Village to meet Su Yu, and then accompanied the troops into the mountainous border area between Taishun and Fuding, where they located Liu Ying and reported on the situation of the Southern Zhejiang Party organization and the Red Army guerrilla units. In September, Su Yu led over 200 soldiers of the Advance Detachment, leaving the mountainous border area between Fuding and Taishun and advancing toward Pingyang. When the Advance Detachment arrived at Shanmen, Su Yu led a portion of the Red Army Advance Detachment to meet with the Southern Zhejiang Red Army guerrilla unit active in the Rui-Ping border area, which was led by Chen Tiejun. The two forces met at Geteng Lake, at the junction of Pingyang and Rui’an. On that day, both units moved to Baofu and stationed at Baofu Palace. Subsequently, Ye Tingpeng, Secretary of the Southern Zhejiang Committee of the Communist Party of China, and Zheng Haixiao, Secretary of the Pingyang County Committee, went to Baofu to meet with Su Yu. They reported on the progress of work in Southern Zhejiang and Pingyang, and voluntarily proposed to come under the leadership of the Provisional Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China for Fujian-Zhejiang Border Areas, thereby expanding the Southern Zhejiang guerrilla base to the northern part of Pingyang’s Beigang and both banks of the middle reaches of the Feiyun River.

The Former Site of the Meeting between the Red Army Advance Detachment and the Southern Zhejiang Red Army Guerrilla Unit is located in Baofu Village, Longwei Township, Pingyang County. It lies at the junction of Longhu in Rui’an, Gongyang in Wencheng, and Longwei in Pingyang, adjacent to Geteng Lake in Rui’an. It is a small mountain village in Longwei Township in the northwestern part of Pingyang County. The entire village area is situated on Baofu Mountain, at an elevation of about 600 meters. Baofu Palace in Baofu Village was an important venue for the meeting at that time. Originally, Baofu Palace was a three-room wooden flat-roofed building facing south, with a rugged path leading to Geteng Lake in front and surrounded by overlapping peaks and dense vegetation. The palace was built in the early part of the last century but collapsed due to years of disrepair. In 1999, local villagers built a new Baofu Palace next to the original site, consisting of a main hall, a stage, side rooms, and a small central courtyard.

The meeting site of the Red Army Advance Detachment and the Southern Zhejiang Red Army Guerrilla Unit in Pingyang is part of the National Red Tourism Classic Scenic Area — the Former Sites Cluster of the Southern Zhejiang (Pingyang) Revolutionary Base, and is also a National Patriotic Education Base.
