Former office site of Liu Ying and Su Yu in Fenglin

The former office site of Liu Ying and Su Yu in Fenglin is a classic red tourism scenic area.

In September and October 1937, Liu Ying led the temporary provincial committee of the CPC for the Fujian-Zhejiang border area and the Advance Division troops to station in Fenglin Village, Feng’ao Township, Pingyang County (now part of Fengwo Town) twice. Liu Ying stayed at the home of Zheng Zhixi in the southern wing of the large house known as Manyi Liufen Nei Dawai in the village. In mid-October, Su Yu led his troops via Shanmen Shuiman to arrive in Fenglin and stayed together with Liu Ying.

Liu Ying lived in the first room on the lower side of the southern wing, while Su Yu lived in the first room on the upper side of the southern wing. The central hall served as their shared meeting room. In October 1937, after all units of the Red Army Advance Division were assembled, a general assembly for all officers and soldiers was held in the Manyi Liufen Nei Dawai house to announce the reorganization of the troops and the change of the unit’s designation to the National Revolutionary Army Min-Zhe Border Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Detachment. At the meeting, Su Yu and Liu Ying delivered speeches respectively. In their speeches, they explained the significance of the KMT-CPC cooperation and the change of designation, calling on all officers and soldiers to resolutely implement the Party Central Committee’s policy of the anti-Japanese national united front, uphold and carry forward the fine traditions of the Red Army, obey orders, intensify training, and be ready to go to the front line to fight the enemy at any time. In November, the provincial committee held its 12th expanded meeting in the Manyi Liufen Nei Dawai house. At the meeting, Liu Ying, on behalf of the provincial committee, summarized the struggle during the last eight months of the three-year guerrilla war and arranged work for the anti-Japanese salvation movement. Su Yu gave a report on the situation of the War of Resistance against Japan. The owner of the Manyi Liufen Nei Dawai house, the elderly Zheng Zhixi, was progressive in thinking, firmly supported revolutionary activities, and was highly respected locally. Upon the arrival of the provincial committee, it coincided with his 70th birthday. Liu Ying specially wrote a birthday couplet: “Four generations under one roof, enjoying family happiness to the fullest; turning seventy, yet patriotism never lags behind,” and designed a birthday plaque inscribed with the four large characters “Courtesy Honors the Aged,” which was sent to him in the name of County Magistrate Xu Yong.

The former office site of Liu Ying and Su Yu in Fenglin is located at the home of Zheng Zhixi in the Manyi Liufen Nei Dawai house in Fenglin Village, Fengwo Town, Pingyang County. It faces east and sits west, with Fenglin Stream in front and Chisha Mountain behind. The surrounding area features continuous mountain ridges and dense forests. The large house was built in the early 20th century, is a wooden single-story structure, has 20 rooms in total, and covers an area of over 500 square meters. The architectural layout of the house is commonly referred to as "four-sided intersecting courtyard," with the front, back, and two wings connected, leaving a central courtyard of several dozen square meters. There is a well beside the rear hall of the large house, with abundant water supply.

The former office site of Liu Ying and Su Yu in Fenglin is part of the national classic red tourism scenic area — the Zhejiang South (Pingyang) Revolutionary Base Site Cluster, and is a national patriotic education base.
