Jingxing Gorge

Jingxing Gorge

Located in the Da Longqiu Scenic Area. It refers to the mountain gorge stretching from Yan Du Di (the southeast water outlet in front of Nengren Temple) to Donglongmen. Its name is derived from the word “经行” (meaning “to pass through”) in the line “雁荡经行云漠漠” (“Passing through Yandang amid hazy clouds”) from the poem by Tang Dynasty poet Guanxiu.

The gorge is flanked by steep, rugged peaks and sheer cliffs, creating an extremely tranquil environment. On the flat slope to the right inside the gorge stands a Huashen Pavilion, built of brick and octagonal in shape, about 4 meters high. The right rolling door is approximately 2 meters high and 1.5 meters wide. There is a skylight on the roof, and one larger and one smaller vent hole on the left side of the pavilion. This is a Song Dynasty structure, originally used as a pavilion for monks’ cremation after their passing.
