Tiyun Valley

Tiyun Valley

Located in the Yanhu Scenic Area, about half a kilometer west of Changwei Village.

The valley entrance is flanked by massive piled rocks, with towering cliffs on both the north and south sides that rise high into the clouds. On the lower part of the southern cliff, two large boulders lean against each other, leaving a gap in between. Visitors can only enter the valley through this cave-like opening, which is just over a meter wide.

The valley is about 300 meters deep and is paved with over 100 stone steps, resembling a cloud ladder. As you wind your way further in, the valley gradually widens, enclosed by cliffs on three sides, creating a serene and secluded atmosphere.

On the left side of the valley floor, there is a gap in the cliff top where water cascades down, forming a waterfall named Tiyun Waterfall after the valley. Below the waterfall lies a pool about two to three acres in size, with picturesque reflections. The pool water is crystal clear and refreshingly cool.

To the southeast of the valley entrance, a peak rises abruptly from the ground, standing about 100 meters tall, with a round, white body that resembles an ornamental pillar in front of an ancient palace—hence its name Shibi Peak (Stone Pillar Peak). On the sheer cliff opposite this peak, there is a stone-carved sign that reads: “The former site of Huang Lizhou’s Twin Waterfalls Lecture Academy enters here.” It is said that Huang Zongxi, a prominent thinker of the Ming and Qing dynasties, once gave lectures here.
