Xiaolong Waterfall

Xiaolong Waterfall

Located in the Lingyan Scenic Area. Also known as the Small Waterfall, it lies at the base of Hidden Dragon Ridge behind and to the right of Lingyan Temple, and is one of the main scenic highlights of Lingyan.

Surrounded by cliffs, the rock face exhibits colors resembling coral and agate. The waterfall cascades down the cliff face, splashing against the rocks and rising in misty swirls; it then dances and scatters, with droplets spraying on visitors. The water churns in the pool below, taking on various hues with the play of light, forming ever-changing shapes. As an ancient observer once wrote, “I cannot get my fill of this view; I stand alone on the railing, letting out a long whistle.”

The pool water flows out through scattered rocks and converges into Wolong Stream, which then meanders southward into Biyu Stream. In the stream lives a rare little creature with a black back and red belly called the spotted salamander, which is quite endearing.

On the mountain to the left of Xiaolong Waterfall, there is a scenic spot called “Monkeys Holding Immortal Peaches”; in Wolong Stream, you can also see charming scenes such as ducks playing in the water.

In addition, in front of the Xiaolong Waterfall pool, there is a large rectangular stone that closely resembles an inkstone, and next to the inkstone lies a flat, oblong small stone slab that looks like a stick of pine-soot ink.
