Guanyin Cave at Nan Yan

Located beneath a cliff on the mountain to the right of Huìwén Academy. The cave is 21 meters high and 45 meters wide, with an ancient temple built against it, featuring a unique architectural style.

The area around the cave is surrounded by lush peaks and rugged rocks, with scenic spots such as Mount Putuo and Bat Peak. On the right side, the “One-Line Sky” is formed by massive cliffs towering on both sides, over a hundred meters high, with only a one-meter gap in the middle. You must climb 160 stone steps to reach the summit.

Attraction Introduction

Originally named “Lingfeng Cave,” also known as “Luohan Cave.” Hidden within Hezhang Peak and facing east, the cave is 113 meters high, 76 meters deep, and 14 meters wide. A nine-story pavilion is built against the rock face, making it the premier cave heaven of Yandang Mountain. Upon entering the mountain gate, you’ll find the Heavenly King Hall, which enshrines the Four Heavenly Kings. It takes 403 winding stone steps from the mountain foot to reach the top hall. In the center of the main hall sits a serene and dignified statue of Guanyin Bodhisattva, flanked by eighteen arhat statues.

Three springs of water drip from the ceiling of Guanyin Cave, named Xixin (Heart-Cleansing), Shuyu (Jade-Rinsing), and Shifu (Stone Cauldron). Xixin Spring drips from a crevice on the left side of the cave ceiling into the Heart-Cleansing Pool, with extremely clear water. Shuyu Spring is located behind the Heavenly King Hall, where water sprinkles down from the cave ceiling and shimmers in rainbow colors under sunlight. Shifu Spring is behind Shuyu Spring, where water gently drips from a fissure in the cauldron-shaped ceiling, resembling a hanging bead curtain.

Looking up from the seventh level of the cave, you can see a small crevice in the middle of the cave ceiling, about a foot wide and three to four zhang long, through which a beam of light shines down—this is called the One-Line Sky. On the outer rock wall of the seventh level of Guanyin Cave, if you look to your left, you can see the “One-Finger Guanyin,” straight ahead is the “Profile View of Guanyin,” and to your right is the “Kṣitigarbha Image.” Further outside the cave, you can see a multitude of spectacular sights. The seventh level was originally a vegetarian dining hall, but now houses a photography department and a small convenience store.
