Tomb of Zhang Lun

The Tomb of Zhang Lun is a cultural relic protection unit of Yueqing City.

Located in the Xianshengmen Scenic Area. It is the mausoleum where Zhang Lun, a Minister of Rites during the Ming Dynasty, was buried, and is one of the largest surviving tombs in Yueqing City.

The Tomb of Zhang Lun was built in the 23rd year of the Chenghua reign during the Ming Dynasty (1487). In 1988, the “Poetic Stele of Zhang Zhongyizhang’s Genealogy” was newly erected, and in 1990, the stone memorial archway was rebuilt.

At the center of the mausoleum is a stone-paved pathway, part of which is arranged vertically with 18 square stones and 33 round stones, symbolizing the 18 levels of hell and the 33 heavens. Towering ancient trees line both sides of the path, and from the outside to the inside, there is a symmetrical arrangement of stone tigers, stone sheep, stone horses, and stone figures, giving the area a solemn and dignified atmosphere.

Zhang Lun: Born in 1413, he passed the provincial examination in the third year of the Zhengtong reign (1438), achieved the top score in the metropolitan examination the following spring, and ranked third among the second-class successful candidates in the palace examination. He was imprisoned but released six years later, reinstated, and promoted to Vice Minister of Rites, earning the title of “Loyal and Righteous Distinguished Minister.”

In the 12th year of the Chenghua reign (1476), he resigned and returned to his hometown. He passed away in 1483 and was posthumously appointed as Minister of Rites of Nanjing by Emperor Xiaozong, who also conferred upon him the posthumous title “Gongyi.” His collected works, “Collected Works of Lord Zhang Gongyi,” still exist. The couplet in front of the tomb, “An iron-willed soul buried beneath the spring soil, a stone-hearted resolve transformed into the heart of the grave,” truly reflects the unyielding spirit of this loyal minister.

Longxi Township boasts abundant tourism resources, including attractions such as Longliu, San Shuiya, Xianyan Cave, Xianzhang Peak, Fairy Pool, Tiantou Eighteen Caves, and Lion Rock, which account for 40% of the township's area. Among them, the Xianshengmen Scenic Area is an important part of the Yandang Mountain landscape, combining the elements of “divinity, wonder, serenity, wilderness, and beauty,” and is known as the “No. 1 Gate Under Heaven,” attracting visitors all year round.
