Aijialing Incident Memorial Pavilion

In June 1930, over 600 members of the First Regiment of the 13th Red Army of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army, led by Xu Dingkui from Yongjia, along with peasant forces under Xia Yunhu from Huangyan, were advancing toward Haimen in Taizhou (now Jiaojiang) when they encountered obstacles. They turned back to Yongjia but were ambushed at Aijialing in Daqin, Yueqing, by the reactionary militia of Daqin led by Jiang Shunan. More than 10 were killed on the spot, and most were captured. The reactionary militia set up a kangaroo court at the Chamber of Commerce on Xiaoshantou in Daqin, interrogated the captured Red Army soldiers and accompanying peasants one by one, then escorted them to the Daqin Charcoal Yard and executed them by shooting. They hired people to carry the bodies to Baigangling in Daqin, near Shipan, dug pits, and buried them collectively. Local residents referred to it as the "Mass Grave." This was the most tragic and heroic incident in the battle history of the 13th Red Army, with a total of 471 killed, historically known as the "Aijialing Incident." To commemorate the revolutionary martyrs, in June 1999, the People's Government of Wenzhou City, along with the People's Governments of Yueqing City and Yongjia County, built the Aijialing Incident Memorial Pavilion on Xiaoshantou in Daqin Town and erected a monument inscribed with words.

The Aijialing Incident Memorial Pavilion is located to the east of Xiaoshantou in Daqin Town, Yueqing City. Also known as the "Red Soul Pavilion," it covers an area of approximately 18 square meters. It is a hexagonal pavilion with upturned eaves, supported by six pillars. Inside the pavilion stands a stone stele inscribed with the Aijialing Incident Memorial Record. Beside the pavilion are two century-old camphor trees, lush and evergreen, symbolizing the eternal existence of the revolutionary spirit. The couplet on the pavilion reads: “The surging Nan River bears the footprints of brave soldiers; the verdant Yan Mountains carry on the legacy of future generations.”

The Aijialing Incident Memorial Pavilion is a patriotic education base in Yueqing City.
