Monument to the Re-establishment of the Leping Communist Party Branch

The Monument to the Re-establishment of the Leping Communist Party Branch is a classic site on China’s red tourism routes.

In March 1938, the Provisional Provincial Committee of the CPC for Min-Zhe Border Area dispatched members of the Wenzhou CPC Branch, including Zheng Meidi (who later defected), along with graduates of the Anti-Japanese Salvation Cadre School for Min-Zhe Border Area such as Huang Yitao, Qiu Qinghua, and Chen Ji (who also later defected), to Leping to re-establish the Party organization there and lead the local people in the anti-Japanese salvation movement. After arriving in Leping, Zheng Meidi and others secretly carried out revolutionary activities in Putou Village, Huancheng Township. In late March, the Leping CPC Branch was re-established at Luoshan Primary School on the hill behind Putou. This branch was directly under the leadership of the Provisional Provincial Committee of the CPC for Min-Zhe Border Area, with Zheng Meidi serving as secretary, and Huang Yitao, Chen Ji, and Qiu Qinghua taking on the roles of organizational officer, propaganda officer, and youth officer, respectively. In May of the same year, the Provisional Provincial Committee of the CPC for Min-Zhe Border Area was dissolved and replaced by the Provisional Provincial Committee of Zhejiang, which also established the Wenzhou Central County Committee. The Leping Party organization came under the leadership of the Wenzhou Central County Committee. That same month, the Wenzhou Central County Committee approved the transformation of the Leping Branch into the Leping Central Branch. The number of branch officers increased from the original four to seven, with the additions of Zheng Boyong as organizational officer, Zheng Meixin as youth officer, and Yu Binggang as agricultural movement officer.

The Monument to the Re-establishment of the Leping Communist Party Branch is located in Putou Village, Yandang Town, Yueqing City. On July 1, 1994, it was erected at the entrance of the village committee office building by the Putou Village CPC Branch and the Putou Village Committee.
